Information about Constitution of the Council

Please note that, although it is listed with the committee meetings and agendas, this heading is not a committee of the Council but a list of the publication dates of the Council’s Constitution.

Surrey County Council has a Constitution that sets out how the council conducts its business, how decisions are made and the procedures to be followed to make sure that these are efficient, transparent and accountable to local people. Some of these processes are required by the law, while others are a matter for the council to determine itself.

The Constitution is divided into a number of articles, which set out the basic rules governing the council's business.

The Constitution is updated at meetings of full Council to ensure that it reflects changes in legislation and stays relevant to local needs. The dates of these updates are listed at the top of this page.

The latest version of the Council’s Constitution can be viewed and downloaded by selecting the latest date of publication from the list above.
