Introduce Traffic Calming Measures on Wray Common Road

We the undersigned petition Surrey County Council to Introduce suitable traffic calming measures and/or a crossing where the Redhill to Reigate cycle path and pedestrian footpath crosses Wray Common Road at Doods Road/Doods Way

The Redhill to Reigate cycle and foot path is a vital part of the sustainable transport infrastructure in the area. It encourages healthy and environmentally friendly journeys between the two towns.

The section that crosses Wray Common Road is used by commuters and Reigate College students, as well as school children (including from the nearby Wray Common and Hatchlands Primary Schools), local residents, workers, and dog walkers. It is also adjacent to a residential care home.

Despite Wray Common Road having a (non-signposted) 30mph speed limit, and road signs limiting HGVs to ‘Access Only’, vehicles hurtle down the road at speeds well over 30mph, and there seem to be increasing numbers of HGVs, possibly linked to changes to other local roads (HGVs >7.5t, including those from the Britaniacrest depot, have been stopped from using Pendleton Road).

Cyclists and pedestrians using these sustainable and environmentally friendly paths should not have to risk their lives dodging between speeding vehicles to cross Wray Common Road, and we therefore request traffic calming measures are introduced there to improve the safety of other road users.
