Under part IV of the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 (CRoW Act), the County Council, along with the other Surrey borough and district local authorities administering the area of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), has a duty to produce an AONB Management Plan no less than every five years.

Section 85 of the same Act also requires all local authorities and other statutory bodies to have due regard to the policies in that Management Plan when delivering their functions.  The Council delegates the duty of reviewing and producing the Surrey Hills AONB Management Plan to the Surrey Hills AONB Board, which is a joint committee supported by a small Surrey Hills AONB team which is hosted by Surrey County Council,

The Council, along with all the constituent Surrey Hills AONB local authorities, is now being asked to adopt the plan for 2020-2025.
