Remove the Planters on Downing Street, Farnham

We the undersigned petition Surrey County Council to immediately remove the obstructive planters and bollards that were installed on Downing Street during the COVID-19 pandemic. These planters have worsened traffic congestion, delayed emergency services, and created unnecessary bottlenecks, turning a two-lane road into a single lane.

There is overwhelming public support for their removal, as seen in local discussions and on social media. Instead of improving traffic flow, the planters have caused gridlock at all hours, made everyday travel more difficult, and put lives at risk by delaying emergency vehicles.

We demand that Surrey County Council take urgent action to:

Remove the planters and restore two-lane traffic flow.

Conduct a proper review of Farnham’s road infrastructure to ensure future schemes genuinely improve, rather than worsen, congestion.

Engage with residents in a meaningful way before implementing any further road changes that affect daily life.

Farnham deserves practical and effective traffic solutions—not ineffective roadblocks that make the situation worse. We urge Surrey County Council to listen to the residents and take immediate steps to remove the planters.
