National Bus Strategy - Bus back better - A Bus Service Improvement Plan For Surrey

The new National Bus Strategy - Bus Back Better - requires a local authority to consider its role in encouraging more people to travel by bus post-Covid 19. The council is responding to the challenge by producing a Bus Service Improvement Plan in partnership with bus operators. It sets out at a high level the ‘future state’ for buses in the county and the positive interventions proposed for introduction, which aim to increase bus patronage. Delivery of the Bus Service Improvement Plan will be subject to Government funding being received.

Consultees

The BSIP requires extensive engagement with the bus operators. This commenced when Bus Back Better was published earlier this year and is and is ongoing.

All D&B Leaders and CEXs, VCFS, disability and user groups are being contacted asking for views on what they would like to see in the BSIP. Also, a short online resident survey is running, the results of which will be used alongside historic and highly detailed consultation material, to show what is important to current and potential bus users.

Officers have held meetings with neighbouring Local Transport Authorities (LTA) and key partners, such as Heathrow Airport Limited, to ensure that measures looking at cross border bus services are consistent across LTA boundaries.
